2012 IFBB Nordic Pro Figure & Finnish Women's Nationals

Lahti Fair Centre, Finland
Saturday & Sunday, September 8-9th, 2012

The brilliant winner of the Nordic Pro Figure was Gal Ferreira-Yates of Brazil in her first professional contest. Kati Alander of Finland was a very close runner-up with Ann Pratt from USA in 3rd place. Gal is the wife of Dorian Yates, making this a double for them to have both competed in the Olympia. Dorian won his first Olympia title in Finland in 1992.

Tom Platz UK Seminar Sept 1993

A bodybuilding star has to be truly outstanding for us to offer 3 separate seminars of him over a ten year period.

Such a star is the Golden Eagle - Tom Platz. Our first seminar was taped with Tom in New Zealand around 1987 (PCB - 29/30DVD). The second time was our group of three lifestyle seminar series tapes made by Vaughan Jones in England in 1990. These were not true seminar tapes as GMV presents them, but segments from seminars throughout the UK as the camera followed Tom over the duration of his England tour PCB-283DVD.

This latest tape is a traditional hard hitting seminar. For 96 minutes Tom gave the most charismatic, entertaining and enlightening seminar we have ever heard. He answered all the hard questions, such as "did Arnold really deserve his victory at the 1980 Mr. Olympia", why Momo Benaziza really died, as well as questions on steroids, training and nutrition. He also traced his own career from humble beginnings as a teenager.

Not to be missed - Tom’s comments on top stars such as Vic Richards, Flex Wheeler, Dorian Yates - all of whom are shown posing.

The final highlight in this inspirational and brutally honest tape is the posing by Tom of his still fantastic legs.

Muscletime Titans Vol. 6 - Gustavo Badell - The Challenger

Gustavo Badell is the man who beat Ronnie Coleman and Jay Cutler in the 2005 Mr. Olympia Challenge round!! The DVD was filmed a few days out from the 2006 Arnold Classic in Gustavo's home town of Las Vegas. Also see bonus footage from the 2004 GNC and back stage at the 2006 Arnold Classic contests.

Gustavo Badell Bio:

Gustavo Badell was born on November 3, 1972 in Venezuela. He currently resides in Puerto Rico with his wife and two kids. Gustavo stands only 5'8" but weighs in on stage at a ripped 240 pounds. Of course, Gustavo must do a clean bulk prior to a contest where his weight can get as high as 270 pounds. He still keeps a low bodyfat during his pre-contest bulk, which is why Gustavo can easily switch from off-season to pre-contest mode very easily.

At the age of 15, Gustavo was actively involved with contact sports such as boxing and kickboxing. Two years later he started becoming involved with amateur boxing but was too skinny make a name for himself. His trainer suggested that he should start weight lifting to put on weight, and he then followed the rigors of an intense workout. After noticing his great genetics, and arms that were almost too big for his body, his fellow gym members suggested that he should get into bodybuilding. Gustavo never thought twice!

Gustavo`s bodybuilding career started slowly, but once he found a better rythm for himself, he has become one of the better pro bodybuilders in the IFBB.

2009 NEW YORK PRO FINAL RESULTS
"Centopani Wins In NY Pro, English Wins 202, LeFrancois Wins Women's."

In an impressive debut performance, Evan Centopani has won the 2009 IFBB New York Pro. Thanks to a powerful combination of size, shape, conditioning and presentation, the 27-year-old made for a popular winner with the New York City crowd. Along with an Olympia qualification the rookie pro takes home a cool $15k and a hefty NY Pro ring.

Coming in second was big Dennis James, who at 247 pounds was just a pound less than at the Arnold, but a whole lot tighter. Look for DJ to attempt to improve upon his placing in one to three shows (according to Dennis himself) prior to the Olympia.

A chorus of boos resounded through the halls of the Tribeca Performing Arts Center when Marcus Ruhl was announced in third. Always a popular performer, Ruhl didn't disappoint in terms of freak factor, but for fans of aesthetics, the Ruhl physique is lacking.

A slightly off Silvio Samuel finished fourth, uncharacteristically smooth and seemingly tired, or possibly dejected over his early low callout.

Hidetada Yamagishi, in one of his best performances to date, drew the last Olympia qualification of the evening, looking sharp and well-tanned.

So, add Evan Centopani and Marcus Ruhl to this year's Olympia lineup in a show that's shaping up to be one of the most competitive in its 44-year history.

FLEX would like to congratulate Evan Centopani on his win and congratulate promoter Steve Weinberger on yet another smooth and assured production here in New York, New York.

In what turned out to be an extremely competitive 202 division, New York's own Kevin English has taken top honors for a second consecutive year. Despite an imbalance between his right and left legs and a slightly watery midsection English is mighty impressive, carrying what looks more like 220 than 202 pounds of muscle on his frame. His chest is particularly improved and he sports an upper body reminiscent of the great Sergio Oliva's.

Finishing second in his second consecutive show was Mark Dugdale, with a shaved head and excellent conditioning. He'll never be the widest guy onstage, but when it comes to sharp muscularity he's hard to beat.

Last year's runner-up, Dave Henry, accepted third place honors to a rousing chorus of boos. While he had his usual upper body thickness on full display, the conditioning wasn't enough to place him higher.

For a second consecutive year Kevin English has put himself in position as a favorite for 202 Olympia honors. We'll all have to wait and see if he can carry his mid-season success through September.

In the women's competition Cathy LeFrancois repeated her victory here last year with a popular win in the Big Apple. With her good looks, refined musculature and omnipresent smile she won the hearts of the New York crowd and NY Pro judges alike.

Taking the runner-up spot was 53-year-old Betty Pariso, who seems to be getting more muscular with each passing year.

Right behind Pariso in third was the "Nubian Caribbean Queen", Rosemary Jennings, who is among the more muscular female competitors in bodybuilding today. With a polished presentation and no weak bodyparts she aslo put herself in good standing for the upcoming Olympia.

2006 IFBB San Francisco Pro Men's Grand Prix Competition - Review.

Time of DVD 116 minutes show coverage plus 24 minutes of Extras for a TRT of 140 mins.

This DVD covers the early afternoon prejudge and evening finals with the sharp images and "you are there front row" feel for which the GMV contest videos are acclaimed.

The prejudge begins with the top 15 (out of 26 competitors) each called out to execute the mandatory poses. The DVD cover has a Branch Warren vs Gustavo Badell theme, but there were some other top competitors in the 15 including Melvin Anthony, Armin Scholz, Ahmad Haidar, Johnnie Jackson, Eddie Abbew, Mustafa Mohammad and Toney Freeman.

The next round of the prejudge was the callouts for quarter turn comparisons. First callout consisted of Badell, Warren, Anthony, Haidar and Mohammad. After the quarter turns segment was the callouts for
comparison of mandatory poses. The first callout was almost the same in this round, except that Freeman replaced Haidar. The competition was spirited, and very audible was Badell's grunting during mandatories (especially when he executes most muscular).

The evening show began with a minute of posing from each of the non finalists. What Derik Farnsworth may lack in mass he compensates with entertaining posing ability. Then each of the 15 finalists presented his routine. Melvin Anthony is always notable. Branch Warren showed some imagination and Mustafa Mohammad showed theatricality in his deliberate and dramatic posing to Phantom of the Opera. Actually, the overall quality of the posing at this show was at a rather high level that should be expected from this caliber of athlete.

Then came the introduction of the top 5, and a final comparison and then a posedown. There was an audience poll for a People's Choice award, which went to Branch Warren. Then the announcement of the results: 5th, Toney Freeman, 4th Mustafa Mohammad, 3rd Melvin Anthony, 2nd Branch Warren and winner of the gold medal and sword was Gustavo Badell. As always from PCB, well done and recommended.

The DVD Extras include an impromptu posing sequence from Bob Cicherillo, a gym posing sequence from competitor Frank Roberson and training partner David Jacobs, and a huge slide show of photos from the show.

For anyone wanting a total show experience, then the Pump Room DVD, also available (see PCB-1141DVD) could serve as a good companion to view before the show. Combined these DVDs provide a full spectrum of the competitive experience.
