This contest saw a first time Arnold Classic Australia victory for a very popular WILLIAM BONAC from the Netherlands. This was the fifth Arnold Classic Australia event and without doubt, the biggest and the best event to date.

JESSICA REYES-PADILLA of Puerto Rico was the first time winner of the Arnold Classic Pro Figure. JANET LAYUG won the Arnold Classic Pro Bikini Class making this her second victory in Australia. It was a first time winner in RYALL GRABER from Canada in the Pro Fitness class.

Here is another superb lineup of bodybuilding stars and many different exciting events at the famous FIBO Bodybuilding Expo in Germany. This was only the second year of the event to be released on video and it is now on high quality DVD.

This DVD has a soundtrack that features a mixture of both German and English speaking throughout. However the guest posing displays are the highlights of this classic, historic FIBO Expo. Lee Priest - Best of Bodybuilders Reality Series 2 DVD Set.

In 2006, BodybuildersReality grabbed their video camera and took on the entertaining challenge of following the world’s most popular pro bodybuilder, Lee Priest.

Once again the DVD captures the “drama” and “comedy” that takes place during training including banter in German of course including off the cuff comments and jokes.

THE GOOD NEWS

The DVD does plays perfectly in the DVD drive of ALL COMPUTERS WORLD WIDE. You can at least view it this way in your computer.

Regarding the German soundtrack, do not be too worried in that the visual images of Markus are more than enough to entertain you without listening to the German chat! If you do speak German, then this is a bonus.

NOW FOR THE BAD NEWS

The DVD is in the PAL European DVD system ONLY. It is not region blocked so the DVD will play in the USA if you have a PAL/NTSC dual DVD player. Or you can select PAL if playing it in a PC.

It is 100% German soundtrack only, with no English. But as a side note: Who really cares as Markus is in awesome shape and his workout is mind blowing!!!!

The Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center, Aviation Auditorium, on the corner of Aviation Blvd, and Manhattan Beach Blvd, was the site for the 1997 IFBB Ironman Pro Invitational. This was the 8th year for this event, and by far, the largest collection of athletes to battle it out for the championship. Twenty three athletes, from all over the world, were here in the first IFBB pro show of the year.

Pre-judging started at 12 o clock, but by 11, there were already 300 or so fans outside the doors waiting to get in. Backstage, there was nervousness, and intense concentration by the athletes, as they prepared themselves for the event.

During pre-judging, there were four parts. The first part introduced all of the athletes, half of them lining up first, and second half a couple of minutes later. The second part consisted of the first call outs, in which the judges compared athletes to each other, three at a time.

The third part consisted of each athlete come on stage and go through a routine, consisting of 7 poses. There were, in order, Front Double Bicep, Front Lat Spread, Side Chest, Rear Double Bicep, Rear Lat Spread, Side Tricep, and Abdominals & Thighs.

The fourth part brought out the final call outs of the pre-judging. This is where you could really see the differences between the top stars, and judge on who will win based on symmetry, muscle, and overall appearance. The call-outs were as follows, in order, three athletes being compared at a time.

Afterwards, the pre-judging came to an end, and the audience went home or to lunch to await the evening show. Backstage, the athletes were being tested for diuretics, which took over an hour and a half to get all of the athletes done, as paperwork and accuracy had to be done. Fortunately for the competitors, press, and backstage personnel, the only drinks that the Ironman show had was water and American Body Building's Ripped Force, Cutting Force, Carbo Light and Amino Powers. Quality above all!

The evening show started at 8 pm. There was a crowd of over 1,500 people on hand, including such notables like Chris Cormier, Shawn Ray, Mike Christian, Vince Gironda, Michio Grubbs, Craig Titus, Garret Downing, Mike Matarrazzo, and Jeff Poulin. The emcee even went as far as predicting that Chris Cormier will win the IFBB Night of Champions event in New York in May.

The evening presentations went as follows. The first part was introduction of all 23 competitors, second part was the routines of the athletes, complete with music and theatrics, and the final part was the selection of the top 10, narrowing down to the winner.

Porter Cottrell was disqualified for failure to appear at award presentation, which he would of placed tenth, while Jerry Rodger was disqualified for failure to take the drug test, According to Porter, he did not hear to judge announced his name and went to the dressing room to change. Four athletes were disqualified for testing positive in the drug test. They were Alq Gurley, B.J. Johns, Gunter Schlierkamp, and Max Shamaya.

It was a hard fought battle, and the only major audience clashing with the judges was that Aaron Baker should of placed third instead of fourth over Ronnie Coleman. The biggest suspense of the night was the final moment between Lee Priest and Flex Wheeler. Would Wheeler win the third Ironman in a row or lose to a 217 pound 5 foot 3 inch, completely muscular Lee Priest? We now know the answer!

This contest was tested for diuretics, clenbuterol and cocaine. Four athletes came out positive. They were Alq Gurley, B.J. Johns, Gunter Schlierkamp, and Max Shamaya.

Special mentions (opinions by Ron Avidan) goes out to these athletes:
Nicest Competitor went to Flex Wheeler, for bowing to the audience each time as he finished posing in all rounds.

Nicest Backstage Competitor went to Roland Kickinger, for being gracious and kind to everyone, even under pressure.

Best Routine went to D.J. Johns from New Zealand, whose routine had the audience captivated and received the biggest applause. Eddie Robinson also gets a mention here for an innovative routine.

Best Music went to Porter Cottrell, for his specially made music about his lifestyle as a fireman, including a line mentioning 'Hey Porter, where's the fire'. Music from the movie 'The Rock' gets special mention for it was used more than once.

Most interesting posing suit goes to Aaron Baker, for pulling his suit as high as he could, thus so the audience can see his glutes more than they should.

Most inspirational went to Mohammed El Makkaway, who has not competed in 12 years, and was celebrating his 22nd wedding anniversary that night.

Most Flexible: went to Patrick Lynn, and Flex Wheeler, for doing the splits on stage, evoking oohs and ouches from the audience.

1982 Miss Olympia

One of the golden oldies: Rachel McLish was the winner in this the 3rd year of the contest. She was followed by Carla Dunlap, Kike Elomaa, Lynn Conkwright and many other famous names of the 80s. As they wrote at the time, "The new Miss Olympia is lean, muscular, sensual. She is the new breed of woman."

See 26 beautiful athletic bodybuilding women in the most prestigious competition for female bodybuilders.

Winner Rachel McLish went on to star in films and is still in fantastic shape today. Carla Dunlap went on to win the 1983 Miss Olympia. Sadly no film or video record of that event exists.

1984 BDB Mr & Ms Germany Deutsche Meisterschaft im Bodybuilding 1984

Held in the Philips Hall, Dusseldorf, the 1984 BDB Mr Germany was won by Ronald Matz.

The DVD includes many great physiques from Germany in the mid eighties.

The BDB was regarded as being the forerunner of NABBA Germany.

Ronald Matz competed with distinction a number of times in the NABBA Universe.

The fantastic GUEST POSERS were: Jeff King, Lance Dreher, Franz Bach, Hermine Klinger and Gabriele Sievers. This is probably the best ever posing footage of JEFF KING.

Jeff King was a hugely popular guest poser with the fans, see Jeff pictured at bottom.

An eyewitness contest report from Stefan Wichmann:

"Star guest poser JEFF KING was in similar shape as shown in his winning photo below. He was simply incredible. In my opinion, he was in his best ever shape in 1984.

My further comments:

192 athletes (male and female) took part. The contest was held on the 12th of May 1984 in Düsseldorf's “Philipshalle”. There were over 2500 spectators. The overall standard of the contest was very high.

The 22 years old Ron Matz from Hamburg won the heavyweight class and became overall champion, defeating Edwin Rössler from Rheinstetten (winner of the short class) and Rüdiger Becker from Siegen (winner of the medium class).

Ron Matz and Edwin Rössler were extremely massive and in ripped condition and fought it out like two bulls. Rüdiger Becker was not so massive but was perfectly symmetrical and in the best shape of his life.

Concerning muscularity and condition, all three open class winners were very close together. This made it extremely difficult for the 7 judges to decide the Overall Champion. In the end Ron Matz got 3 votes and the others 2 got 2 votes each in the posedown.

The highlight of the DVD for me was the awesome appearance of Jeff King. He looked like a God who had descended from Mount Olympus - he was truly awesome.

Also note the great shape of the top three German class winners, the outstanding Junior Overall Winner in Maik Behnke, the amazing physique of Eleonore Urbanski and the powerful posing display from USA's Lance Dreher. That was real bodybuilding at its best in the 80s. All guest posers were outstanding."
